Connecting family businesses and the EU

Giovanna Spadoni and Giorgio Spadoni, CEO and President respectively of OMTRA srl Società Benefit, a B Corp certified company, met in Brussels with Pierfrancesco Maran, a Member of the European Parliament serving on the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection, with the goal of establishing a direct link between Italian family businesses and the European Parliament.

The topics discussed included European legislation, which is often perceived as disconnected from the real needs of family businesses, as well as climate change and its impact on industry. Specifically, they addressed the increasingly frequent flooding that requires strategic infrastructure solutions—which create local jobs—rather than costly and repetitive emergency interventions.

Another point of discussion was the B Corp movement, which, with its environmental and social goals historically inspired by figures like Adriano Olivetti, is working to redefine the relationship between businesses, workers, and the global economy.

In this context, Italian members of the European Parliament play a crucial role in representing Italian businesses in Brussels. Beyond political divides, opening a channel for dialogue and the concrete exchange of opinions and expertise on specific issues with the new Commission and the European Parliament is essential to ensure that the concerns of family businesses are considered from the outset, before European directives are finalized and become difficult to amend.
